Mobility means more space in your workshop

Circular saw on a mobile base

A great number of our customers struggles with space in their workshop. Whether they are handymen or craftsmen. “We could always use some more space, but it is just not doable.” We hear this sentence all the time from our customers.

We are glad, that we can solve your problem with space in your workshop and introduce to you, exclusively, our helper exactly for that purpose.

The JET mobile base is an ideal solution, it comes in two makes depending on the size and weight of the machine, the base can hold up to 500kg.

Construction of the Base

disassembled baseThe mobile base consists of four strong corner parts mounted with wheels with brakes and a locking pin.
The corner parts are made out of thick sheet metal, in order to secure maximum capacity and strength of the base.  Two corners are mounted with fixed wheels and the other two are mounted with castor wheels, those provide manipulation in all directions. All corner parts are coupled with adjustable connectors with a series of openings that you can set up according to the size of your machine. The size of the base has to be set precisely so that the machine can sit securely in the base.

Assembly of the base

The assembly is very simple and will only take a minute or two. It is not necessary to use a screwdriver or any other tools. The corner parts are precisely profiled so the connectors fit in perfectly and secure the overall strength and firmness of the base.

First, you assemble the axle with castor wheels and then the second axle with fixed wheels. Then you just put these two together with the connectors. Make sure, that all the locking pins are in their place and that the opposing sides are the same length. Then check the mobility and function of the wheels and the whole base without putting any machines on it.

Setting a machine into the base

Setting machine into the base is not hard at all, however, we would still like to suggest the use of handling devices or to ask for help. You could easily get hurt as the machine can slip up when being manipulated into the base.

First, you need to set the base according to the parameters of the machine. The size of the base should be adjusted with some excess space left, so you can easily put the machine in but careful, the excess space should not be too wide, that could lower the carrying capacity of the base. So first take the measurements of the machine and set up the base according to them. We recommend to set the base up in a way that it can be simply inserted under the machine. So do not combine castor wheels with the fixed ones on both axles. This will secure easy handling of the base when inserting it under the machine.

If the measurements of the machine are smaller than the smallest possible ones of the base (that can happen with a floor drill press), we recommend affixing the drill onto a stand, which you put into the mobile base. You can increase the stability of any machine that way.

When you have made the floor projection of the machine, you can start with the mounting of it onto the base. It should not pose any difficulties when using handling devices. After lifting the machine up to the desired height you insert the base under the machine and lower it onto the base. When mounting the machine manually, you first tilt it on one side as much as possible. Then insert the base under the machine so far as possible and hoist the machine up over the edge of the base. Make sure you hold down the base when putting the machine in, so it does not elevate. Then you insert the machine into the base and settle it in its place. It is quite tiring when doing all this manually, but in the end, it is worth the mobility of your machine.

The possibilities of the base

The mobile base is ideal for all machine types in woodshops and metal workshops, simply anywhere where mobility of machinery is desired. We offer two types of mobile bases, they differ in size and carrying capacity. The smaller version has the capacity to carry 250kg and can hold the measurements from 460mm x 460mm to 610mm x 610mm. The larger version can carry up to 500kg and hold the measurements from 610mm x 610mm to 860mm x 860mm. 500kg is a pretty heavy machine, and thanks to the base you can move it freely around the workshop.

To sum up

The mobile base presents a simple solution for smaller workshops or variability of a machine. I have encountered many homemade mobile bases, but the complexity and time that the construction of it takes are not worth it. Mobile bases supplied by IGM are a simple solution with guaranteed quality and assurance of carrying ability.

Mobile bases are popular with customers all around the world. We are glad we can offer you this mobile stand and help you to solve space troubles in your workshop.
