Why are the CMT dowel drills better than others?

cmt dowel drills

The answer is not that simple. The job's not done yet, even if you choose the material of the highest quality, the most important thing is to combine high-quality material with precise production technology. CMT has been studying the optimal technology for dowel drill production and has come up with one of the best drills in the world.

High strength steel body

The shanks and bodies of all the drills are made of high-quality steel rods supplied by a Swiss company called Van Moos Steel. The steel is characterized as follows:

• high strength
• minimum deformation
• exceptional resistance to wear and tear

Grinding

The grinding is performed using fine-grained tools of 0.4µ/mm coarseness and is performed on automatic CNC machining centres of 6 os, guaranteeing maximum edge precision.

Specially brazed surface with hard resistance against impacts

The cutting edges made of fine-grained carbide are specially brazed to the tool. This soldering technique allows brazing at higher temperatures and guarantees firm edge hold on all drills.

The highest industrial quality fine-grained carbide

The CMT knives are made by a Luxembourg company Cerametal and are made of high-quality carbide ensuring strength, long life and endurance of the cutting edges.

Teflon coating

Teflon coating is a guarantee of a non-stick coating which prevents accumulation of dust on the drill. This unique material is sealed in 420° C and that way, it meets the required quality of professional woodworking tools.

Grounded steel shank

CMT uses tools of O.8µ/mm grit to ground their shank. The grind quality determines the firmness with which the drill is secured in your machine. Coarse grinding may lead to improper clamping in the collet and may cause the drill to vibrate.
